A/N: This is for chrysa, because I love her, but this is...kind of weird so I doubt she'll want it? This is supposed to be set in the same universe as Songs That We Sing but it stands alone just as well.

"Zhou Mi...what are you doing?"

He's really too tall to fold up properly; his crouch results in jutting knees and lanky extended arms, a paper cup in one hand and a mechanical pencil in the other. He doesn't even have a raincoat. Kyuhyun walks over to shade him with his umbrella.

Zhou Mi flashes him a distracted smile and turns back to the sidewalk. "Saving earthworms," he replies.

If Kyuhyun squints, he can see a faint narrow glimmer creeping across the pavement. Zhou Mi moves his paper cup to intercept it, and the line stops short.

"I thought you hated bugs."

"Earthworms are different," Zhou Mi says. "They aerate the soil and help flowers grow." He uses the pencil to gently encourage the earthworm to crawl inside. Kyuhyun stares at him. "Stop looking at me like that," he says without looking up.

With one worm successfully captured, Zhou Mi lifts the cup and duck-walks towards another one. Kyuhyun and his umbrella follow. "My mother's a gardener," Zhou Mi adds quietly after a moment of silence.

Kyuhyun crouches beside Zhou Mi, watching. This second worm is more stubborn; it keeps turning away, and Zhou Mi has to move the cup a few times until it begins to slink inside.

"Was that your morning tea?" Kyuhyun asks.

"Mm-hmm."

"Did you at least finish it first?"

Zhou Mi gives him a look. "Saving lives is more important than tea, Kyuhyun."

"So what if they get stepped on? Don't they just grow back if they get cut in half?"

"You can't 'grow back' from being crushed." Zhou Mi starts for a third.

Kyuhyun sighs. He turns and opens his bag, digs for worm-saving supplies, and comes up with an empty plastic folder and a pen. "Here," he says, tucking his umbrella into the crook of Zhou Mi's neck. Zhou Mi cocks his head to hold it in place and looks up at him, questioning. "You're going to catch a cold like that. I have a raincoat."

"You don't have to," Zhou Mi says, although there's a telltale warmth in his eyes.

"Yeah, I do," Kyuhyun says. "You have class in ten minutes."

Soon Kyuhyun's pants are wet and clinging to his thighs and his fingers are beginning to ache from the cold. Under his breath, he curses an earthworm and nudges it onto his folder. When it finally crawls on, he turns and tosses it into the grass.

"I feel like a monk doing penance," he mutters to himself. "You're going to be late," he says, louder. Zhou Mi looks up.

"Will you—?"

"Yeah," Kyuhyun says, waving him off. "I'll keep going. Go to class. Keep the umbrella," he says.

Zhou Mi gets up to release a final pair of earthworms by the side of the path. He walks back to Kyuhyun and bends down to press a kiss to his damp hair. "Thank you," he says.

"Why are you like this," Kyuhyun says to a hesitant worm, a reluctant smile on his lips.





Kyuhyun glances at his watch and realizes that he's just spent the last half-hour of his life transporting earthworms.

"What," he mutters. "I'm done." He flips one more to safety before he stands, stretching to ease the ache in his back and neck.

If he's careful about where he places his feet on the way home, that's his own business.

—And then some time later they get a bunny and name it Qiuyin. The end.
—Janist monks bring sticks with them wherever they go. They use them to nudge insects and other living creatures away from where they're walking, just to be sure they can't hurt them accidentally.

Okay, that was disgustingly adorable. Like, I don't usually care for earthworms I do try to avoid them,though, because I feel sorry for them being forced above ground into the path of danger but, um. They're slimy. Or, at least they look they would be... I don't think I've ever touched one, now that I think about it. /ponders

Earthworms are really very soft. If I had to describe their texture, I would probably say "floppy." I mean, that's when they're in the rain, where they're floppy because they're absorbing too much water. On an ordinary day they're much stronger. I wouldn't say slimy...I would say slippery! And they tickle when you hold them in your palms. :D /likes earthworms

...The reason I have such a hard time fishing is because I can't bear to hurt the worms to do it, actually. I am much happier when I can use chicken livers or something else instead.

I'm really glad you liked this, though. I tried to make the worms as un-creepy as possible to those who don't like them very much. I'm glad it mostly worked?

Now that I actually use Tumblr, I know who you are!! Hi! I just lurk your tumblr incessantly but, um, you are really adorable and I love how much you love Kyuhyun XD.

Thank you! No no, don't worry, he's not—he has a raincoat on; only his pants got wet, and you wouldn't usually catch a cold from that. It's a short walk to his house and then he will change~ no worries there. (It's adorable that you actually worry about things like that, though ;~;)

I KNOW, I DON'T GET WHY PEOPLE DON'T SEE IT EITHER. Kyubb is such a, well, a bb. Although I'm sure you've seen it, I just recently discovered the video of him playing clarinet where he's startled every time he messes up. sl;dlkja;lkjaer he is such a kid! Back when I was first getting into the fandom, what finally convinced me that Kyubb was a sweetheart was this video where Shindong and some girl prank call him and HE IS SO POLITE, oh gosh. It breaks my heart when people write him as being completely villainous, too...to be honest, I tend to stay away from fics like that. ._.

After this conversation I actually went digging around the fandom and I was shocked to see how many people really do write Kyuhyun as evil! Most of the authors I've run into before that point actually don't write him that way. I think your tumblr does a lot to convince people otherwise, though :D

Oh, but there's so much good fic here on LJ! You should enjoy it! Um, most fanfiction authors tend to have master lists linked to on their main pages, or as the first post on their journal. Master Lists usually make it easier for people to dig through a writer's body of work. Mine is here, for example?

There are also rec lists which can help you locate good fic more easily! I run one over at microlight and I know there's also superjupiters. There are other lists here and here, too (click on the qmi tag if you want to narrow those down).

Um, I'm sorry if I'm being a bother. I just like fic and want to share the love :D
